June 2010 — "My daughter has been going to Bates for 6 years and can't wait to go back for her last year as a camper this July. The location is classic western ranch in the fantastic high foothills of AB. This camp provides opportunities for kids to experience animal care, riding skills, camping, leadership and allows for great new friends and experiences. Fresh air, great food and lasting memories are just part of this wonderful outdoor experience."

July 2008 — "i go to bates every year! its great! just the right amount of free time, lots of games, fun, and horseback riding! the land you ride on is great with great views (except the so caled "grizzly" we ran from on a rather... odd ride.) and ive been going there since... i dunno, since i was 8? thats about 6 years or so. its great :)"

August 2007 — "I have been going to Bates Bar J for eight years and I had a fantastic time every time that I went. My first year I was a little nervous because it was my first time away from home but it was such a welcoming and fun environment that before I knew it the week was over and I couldn't wait to go back. that first year was when I was eight and I am now sixteen and I am still looking forward to my return to bates. The relaxed atmosphere of the camp and the positive attitude of the counsellors makes Bates Bar J my only choice for summer camp."

Bates Bar J Ranch is a summer riding camp located in the foothills of the Rockies northwest of Calgary, Alberta. The camp is for boys and girls 8 to 15 years of age during July and August. From September through June, their lodge is available for retreats, reunions, anniversaries and other types of group bookings.
